    Correct, but employee not employer.

    If he works through an Umbrella he's every bit as employed as any other employee so it shouldn't be an issue that he's a contractor.
    i would tend to agree but aparently the bank doesnt.

    i had the same issue tryint go remortgage last year - the bank didnt care that i was an "employee" of the payroll company, they just said i was a contractor.

      I've had the same: in their definition, you're a self-employed contractor, and they don't want anybody else's definition; indeed they start to get ratty if you point out that HMRC is quite clear about your status and it's not self-employed.

        He should tell anyone that he is fully paid under PAYE like any other full-time employee in this country.

        Furthermore, he should ask his brolly for a letter proving his earnings and how many weeks of the year he's worked. If they try and charge him to produce this, tell them to stuff themselves.
