Recommend a new TV

I just bought a Panasonic 37LZD85 which I'm very impressed with but at £760 it may be outside your budget. There is an LXD85 model which is similar but cheaper - doesn't have 100Hz but that may only be important if you watch a lot of sport.

Mine was listed at £999 at John Lewis but they price-matched with Comet.
I just sent an email to customer service and they sent me a letter which I took into the branch.

I would definitely recommend buying from JL rather than Comet/Curry's etc as the after care is much better, (if you need it).
There are quite a few horror stories online about the difficulty in getting those companies to replace/refund.

When I got ours I bought a copy of What TV and Plasma and just went through the ones that got the best marks and ran them through pricerunner. It's also worth checking the net for discount codes if you are buying online. I got our 2 from empire direct for a couple of reasons

1 - they were already the lowest in the price runner tests.
2 - I got a further 10% off via a code I found on hotukdeals.com
3 - you can get a further 2% off if you go through Quidco first.
4 - for a one off £20 you can buy a card which gets you a 3 year waranty on anything you buy form then for the next 12 months.
I don't know what they are like when trying to claim on your warranty though.

Buy a nice painting and look at that instead.

Probably cheaper (unless you buy an old master) and greener too.

No license fee and it will still work when your 'leccy is cut off due to unpaid credit card bills.

A win-win there I'd say.

I need a new TV for front room, 32inch - 40inch would do, anyone recommend anything up to around £500-£700. I'm not a big DVD or TV watcher but want something decent / good value for the £. I went into Comet at weekend and really didnt have a clue if the price was good etc

37" Plasma Panasonic Viera it looks good, if u dont like try Sony or Samsung as prices going down. Also check http://www.hotukdeals.com/ u can find good deals through the site

You should be able to get the 37" for similar or maybe a little less money.

It's HD ready - not full HD - but then as I mostly watch non-HD sources I get a better picture - if you go full HD and mainly watch non-HD sources then you may regret it.

What's the problem with the picture when watching non HD feeds on a 1080p picture? Does it look grainy? Odd colour? Poor contrast? shadowing?

I would've thought many people buying a full HD telly would also have an HD tv feed (sky or virgin) so rendering the freeview component redundant
