Doubt you'll find anyone willing to install a line on shorter terms, unless they ask for more up front anyway. They all still have to go through BT, using their Open Reach engineers, as they're the only ones allowed to fiddle about in the exchanges. So much for LLU and monopoly busting.

Not much alternative to getting a land line by the sounds of it, unless you can piggyback on a neighbour's wireless network!

I am home based now and 24 hours online ... looks like I need at least 15 gigs pr month and this does not include too much video /voice downloads.

I am with a Three HSDPA dongle now , and 14 Gigs / month will be 50 Gbp. ( Not to mention that they block Adult content when you use the sim card in a 3G phone instead in the dongle. )

Seems like it is much better for me to factor 120 GBP cost for 1 year BT line , and then go PAYG broadband with the suggested providers...

Give him a fiver and and let him analyse all your web traffic. hope you trust him.

On the other hand you can do all the illegal P2P sharing you like, even host porn sites and he will carry the can. Hope he trusts you

I wouldn't trust anyone for a fiver. That's why I use my own 3 mobile modem on my travels. Cheap and no worries

My neighbour knows nothing about computers and doesn't know how to access the router config.
The connection speed around here is <1M so no chance to hosting anything.

I trust my neighbour - seems some on here believe everyone else is out to spy on them...that's only JS and her lot.

One scam that may come in handy is finding out which neighbour owns the wireless network you can see, but not necessarily access.

Go round saying you've been able to get onto it (was a piece of piss seeing as you're an IT professional) and offer to sort out the security for free.

Then set up whatever security you think will make it more secure against unwanted bandwidth stealers, knowing you've got all the WPA/WEP keys you need to get onto it yourself for free internet.
