Considering GB has not been PM very long, his overall performance in that role is probably looking OK now. Doesn't mean Labour should stay in power... but I'd prefer they wait a year for an election so we can actually get a more balanced view of GB... ever since he came in there's been one crisis after another... bombs and wars and oil prices etc.

An election very soon would not give me a chance to actually decide how things will roll with GB in charge.

I'd rather him take us through the recession that he has helped to cause. It's only fair !!

Yeah but its like the other thread - different hand same sockpuppet (or whatever it was) :- If the conservatives had been in these last 11 years you'd be pretty much in exactly the same position, the only difference being that with the conservatives you can at least forget about the depressing situation for a day or two each week to snigger over the latest tory MP to get boomed with a stocking over his head and a piece of fruit up his bum in a strip club.

Otherwise you wouldn't be able to tell the difference

I'd be able to tell the difference, because IR35 would not exist, my pension would not have been raided, HIPS would not exist, the Human Rights Act would not have been incorporated into British Law, and my taxes would be somewhat lower. Oh... and don't forget the immigrants !!

We might be lucky that we have a socialist like GB in power during this crisis.
The Tories might not have been as willing to nationalise the banks just like the US has been so reluctant to do until a few days ago.

Also GB has been chancellor for 11 years has some experience with finance issues. Just look at the two US presidential candidates at the moment. They seem completely clueless when it comes to this crisis, they have about as much knowledge on the subject as George W Bush. And dont forget Sarah Palin who when asked about a bail out solution to the crisis gave a stock answer 'its got to be about job creation'.

Yeah but I was in the UK for long enough when the Conservatives were in to know that they aren't any better than Labour when it comes to taxes etc. It might not be called IR35, but it would still exist.

Sorry about the tardy reply, i was just honouring the age-old contractor strategy of having an 'off-site' meeting that involves getting paid to be at the pub.

              Which is nice.

Does anybody actually believe it was Golden Clown and the badger who came up with this scheme?

The real authors of this recovery package will be the same bankers who caused it and a few Whitehall mandarins. They would have given the same advice to who ever was in power.
There were very few options he could take to start with.

Brown is not guilty of causing this debacle, but he is guilty of presiding over a period of runaway banking causing runaway debt and lending money with no sound basis for repayment. He has allowed, nay heartily supported, globalisation of business where massive companies have cornered the market in every sense. He has exported jobs and profits and allowed incredible city bonuses to milk the country dry. He is screwing ever more tax out of dwindling pay packets and has not seen that this is unsustainable.
He has contributed to this crisis.
He has left us defenceless against this crisis.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!
