These guys get taken on, on dubious indications that they are actually quite good. Then they linger for ages, possibly making money for their company, possibly not. If they are good, they get paid shedloads of money. If not, well... they still get paid shedloads of money before finally leaving.

Yes, I'm talking about .... contractors.

I once met some traders in 1987. They had a budget of £5m. They spent on 2 deals! Then they watched them for 1 year. Lost money, got sacked, moved on.....
