Im not saying they own 100% of all of them but they do have stakes in all
    of them and more.

There's an article on the bbc today with comments from people who actually live in Iceland and apparantly people are stockpiling food because the supermarkets are struggling to import goods as the own currency goes down.

I wonder if that could ever happen here.

REYKJAVIK, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Iceland has dismissed the board of directors of Landsbanki and has put the Icelandic bank in receivership, a minister told state radio on Tuesday. Commerce and banking minister Bjorgvin Sigurdsson said the move was made in cooperation with Landsbanki and the bank would be open and run as normal while the changes were taking place. Sigurdsson said Iceland’s Financial Supervisory Authority had put its own people in place of the bank’s board. Late Monday, Iceland adopted sweeping powers over its battered banks as its financial system tottered and its currency plunged.

      No smoke without fire?

Says the bank running as normal so have fingers crossed your cash will come through. What a total nightmare.

Unlike Icesave, Kaupthing isn't on the passport scheme, it's the same as having it in a UK bank protection wise.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

          I think you'll be OK.

I'm scared I'll end up in limbo, I logged in this morning before the site went down, its gone from Icesave, not in RBS, should be fun

Wouldn't like to test this out though. How long would they take to pay out? 100 years?

                  From BBC News yesterday:

"Iceland will also offer an unlimited guarantee for all bank customers' savings accounts".

I think If a whole country goes under, then its curtains for everyone so am banking (no pun intended) on the Icelandic govt. sorting this sh!t out.

                    .
Actually they are not offering that 100% guarantee to UK customers. Only to Icelandic customers. UK customers must use the passport scheme and only up to £50K.

It is two schemes each offering 100% of your deposit upto £50k.
