Ohhh now you're talking... extrapolate the Tripartite Agreement to equate to slavery ....good post....but I think with hindsight what we did to the Scots was regrettable, but at least it dragged them out of their mud hut existence and bought a measure of civilisation to them, so perhaps it was a price worth payingHow fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think -
I thought slavery was simple enough example that someone like you would understand, did not want to get all nuanced with you about unfair stuff - if it's bad, unfair then it does not matter if it's stone age.Originally posted by Troll View PostOhhh now you're talking... extrapolate the Tripartite Agreement to equate to slaveryComment

So you were serious in comparing a selection process in which the participants competed fiercely (and as far as I know still do) for an opportunity to serve with the British Army with the capture and possible transportation of individuals against their will as slaves?Originally posted by AtW View PostI thought slavery was simple enough example that someone like you would understand, did not want to get all nuanced with you about unfair stuff - if it's bad, unfair then it does not matter if it's stone age.
really?

The example is valid in terms of "retrospectiveness" - is slavery bad restrospectively or not? If so, then terms of Gurkhas contacts were unfair too and it is well overdue to put them right.Originally posted by Troll View PostSo you were serious in comparing a selection process in which the participants competed fiercely (and as far as I know still do) for an opportunity to serve with the British Army with the capture and possible transportation of individuals against their will as slaves?Comment

A better example would be to compare to an indentured servant

Yes it would be a better example, but I thought I'd use easy obvious example with you - either way you loseOriginally posted by Troll View PostA better example would be to compare to an indentured servant

It's not an insult. I intentionally used easy simple example to avoid long arguement about whether retrospective thinking is bad as response to your words:Originally posted by Troll View Postahh...resorting to insults to mask your failed logic-most unlike you, have you given sasguru your id again?
Maybe I should have just said: if things of the past look wrong now, then they should be put right now. This is not ancient history we talking about here - these are REAL people who had REAL problems. Many of them are old now and many did not live to see the day when they can live in the country that they served so well.with a 2008 retrospective viewpoint lots of things would seem unfair.Comment

Those Gurkhas and their immediate families that served and suffered for this country, with dedication and devotion have a greater right to live here than any of the British domestic social misfits and foreign immigrants that swamp this country now.
Nuff saidConfusion is a natural state of beingComment
