Anyone see it? A tad more booring than some of his other travels, but it was interesting to see how Anglicized Iran appears to be. Almost everything, train tickets, signposts, menus, appear to have English translations, and in some cases the English translation came before Arabic. The people seemed normal / pleasant too - they weren't carrying suicide bombs and newspapers reported on British events, and a couple of young single women even flirted with Charlie and crew on the train. Charlie was a bit worried about getting his throat slit by pirates on a boat trip though for some reason. It's repeated tonight on BBC2.

I got bored with it last episode."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment

It smacks of desperation, Ewan must be busy making a Hollywood blockbuster so the whole team (minus the star) decided to do it anyway, he always blabs on about missing his family… so much that he decides to go on yet another road trip with the boys that will keep him away for months on end.
Michael Palin done a much better job 30 years before.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

Agree. He doesn't seem to tell any stories except his own - Palin had a knack for getting something out of the local population but this just seems to be a holiday video.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostIt smacks of desperation, Ewan must be busy making a Hollywood blockbuster so the whole team (minus the star) decided to do it anyway, he always blabs on about missing his family… so much that he decides to go on yet another road trip with the boys that will keep him away for months on end.

I'd be more interested in watching a documentary of his Paris-Dakar exploits."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment

Seriously though, Palin was fantastic and the key part of the programmes was the locals and what they had to say about living there.
Ewan and Boreman seemed to be more concerned about "how hard" it is travelling so far on motor bikes (with a flipping huge entourage of support vehicles)Coffee's for closersComment

Palin got boring eventually. But these things are not really comparable, it's different characters, different styles and objectives and different times.Comment

Palin was great... up until that 'New Europe' thing where even he looked a bit bored by it all.Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostPalin got boring eventually. I saw that series as ill-conceived pro-Europe propaganda. Nowhere near enough coverage of little things like, er, genocide in the heart of Europe just a few short years ago. Too much of the "Hey! We're all one big happy family!" dross.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostPalin was great... up until that 'New Europe' thing where even he looked a bit bored by it all.Comment
