So how low will it go?

Out of curiosity, what would happen if the FTSE went to 0 ?

Is that possible ? What would happen ?
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Lending would dry up as companies would have little equity against which to borrow.

It’s a bit like asking what happens to you when you fall into a black hole. Some say that you re-emerge through a white hole somewhere else. When in fact you are ripped apart long before you get any where near actually falling into one in the first place.

Long before the FTSE got to zero the economy would have collapsed.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

Why isn't my gold going up (much) then?
I thought people would be flocking to the yellow stuff.

Gold took a huge hit from speculators cashing in near $900. Oil prices have dropped back and the Dollar has gained a fair bit at the same time, both of which make gold look less attractive.
