Just pay by credit card. If the airline goes bust and you have paid over 100 quid you are entitled to a refund by the credit card company. I pay for all of my major purchases by this method for this reason and I am just amazed that people pay 1,000s by cheque with the risk that involves. It's jusr sheer ignorance, and costly ignorance !!

True, but that is not what I was on about. Sorry for not being clearer.

I was refering to those that booked flights direct with the company and are now abroad. They are not covered by the ATOL protection and will have to find and fund their own way home.

Apologies for the misunderstanding.

Easyjet have offered to assist anybody for 75 quid per flight if they phone their number, and the government have a duty to repatriate their own nationals. There is a bit of inconvenience but if a company goes bust that is unavoidable.
The main thing though is to make sure that you get a full refund on your original booking which can be achieved via credit card.

The end of cheap air travel.

Good - a shortage of the mouth breathing, football shirted, tattooed, ill educated and ill bred travellers will make my travel more pleasant.

I hope for the 2 main reasons (sleazy jet and the other one)for finding English (see above) drunks abroad to also go under.
