ID cards will mean loads of work for contractors.

Plus they won't be able to farm the work out to India because everyone will need security clearance.

So unfortunately no one is prepared to justify the government scheme. It's a shame that proponents of it melt away when challenged on the details.

From a selfish point of view, there could be loads of freelance work involved in setting up, the new NPfIT, could keep us going to retirement and probably still not deliver.

Thats NPfIT... nothing to do with the ID card scheme

ID cards will not prevent either fraud or beardies, but will take the UK a good few steps closer to a Police State. That's why they are useless. The scheme will cost loads, fail, be "fixed", cost more, fail, be "fixed", cost more, fail, .... until the universe finally reaches heat death. Meanwhile, hardly a dent will be made in the steely armour of fraudsters and bearded types. Of course, several Mr & Mrs. Average couples will, at the same time, have been fined, jailed & bankrupted by "data issues", as well as living in a Big Brother world, where playing by the rules will simply mean more taxes and fewer freedoms.
