I've got two photocard licences. I lost the counterpart, so had to pay for a replacement but you can only get a replacement for both parts. I think I'm meant to cut up the old one and send the remains back to DVLA, but I imagine I could get away with keeping it.
I have two passports as well, though I think the original has now expired. That was because I reported one as lost, got a replacement, then found the original 2 years later when I moved. Presumably it wouldn't have worked to go abroad, but I could have used it for ID at a bank or something.
