I've got two photocard licences. I lost the counterpart, so had to pay for a replacement but you can only get a replacement for both parts. I think I'm meant to cut up the old one and send the remains back to DVLA, but I imagine I could get away with keeping it.
I have two passports as well, though I think the original has now expired. That was because I reported one as lost, got a replacement, then found the original 2 years later when I moved. Presumably it wouldn't have worked to go abroad, but I could have used it for ID at a bank or something.

Due to a quite spectacular cockup in their systems many years ago I had two provisional licences with two different driver numbers. Didn't have the nerve to try and pass my test twice to get two licences and stupidly owned up instead.

pointless? it is a forerunner to ID cards - which is obviously hugely worthwhile.Originally posted by TheBigYinJames View PostYes you do, and if you are changing any other details, address, taking points off, etc yuo have to get one. Also you still have the paper half, so it seems a bit pointless.

I've still got the old paper one as well. It's got 5 expired points from 1994 (98 in a 70, razzing it in a hired Mondeo along the then newly opened A14) and 3 brand spanking new ones last month from a mobile camera parked 10 yards after where the speed limit changes from 70 to 50 on the A3 - was doing 69 and decelerating downOriginally posted by FiveTimes View PostI've got 3 expired points from 2002 - a visit to alton towers. Can't be bothered to send it off to get them removed.
How many out there have got the photo license also ? I've not

I must remember that excuse - sounds very plausible.Originally posted by TheBigYinJames View PostNo lies, I told them I was a IT contractor who was required to drive to get to my clients. Since I was between clients at the time, I explained that not being able to drive would seriously impact my ability to get work.
The implication was clear. Put me on the dole if you want.
As it turned out, they made a wise decision,a nd as it turns out I must have modified my driving to some extent (and been more careful/teched up) because I haven't had a ticket since.

good point - but when you tell them between years 4 and 5 they say "so they are coming off this year then" - so why ask?Originally posted by TonyEnglish View PostWhat annoys me is that the points expire after 4 years but the insurance companies still ask for them for 5 years

The points expire after 3 years, the stay on your license for a further year, but insurance companies ask for convictions in the last 5 years.Originally posted by TonyEnglish View PostWhat annoys me is that the points expire after 4 years but the insurance companies still ask for them for 5 years

What annoys me is that the points expire after 4 years but the insurance companies still ask for them for 5 yearsOriginally posted by BrilloPad View PostToday is 4 years to the day since I got 3 points for breaking numerous laws on Salisbury plain (the A30). Before that I had some points unfairly awarded for going through a red light(not my fault but there we go).
Now I can finally register my new address - I was never going to pay to have points removed from the paper copy.
