Long way from the city? Are we talking Canary Wharf or just London generally? Either way they're relatively close - fast trains regularly to Waterloo and jubilee down, is pretty close by most of London's standards.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostYou get good access to the West End - but it is a long way from the city.Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

Imho
Yeah the East End is changing, it always has thought throughout history
Its becoming very ghettoised in areas and IMHO is more dangerous than it was 4,5 years ago.
The prices of the property is dropping like a stone as I dont think anybody above 30 really wants to live there and most buys where speculative.
Why some councils can keep the streets clean and others not is beyond me, Tower Hamlets falls into the latter group.
I think maybe its a case of me changing as well which may account for my negative perception but people who I know who went to school there and grew up there reckon that its worse now than it has ever been. There are no evil thoughts except one: the refusal to thinkComment

Lived in east london as a student, Bow, Bromly-By-Bow, Ilford, East Ham. This was 20 years ago though and it wasn't that bad. Run down and scruffy but otherwise ok. Started going down hill just before we moved out. Acid bath murder in the lockup garages at the end of out road, Bonfire night was like livng in downtown Beirut. Overall it wasn't bad though."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife.Comment

I am in New Eltham. 19 minutes London Bridge, 23 to Cannon Street, 23 to Waterloo(East), 27 to Charing X. All direct trains. We have a baker, butcher, post office and co-op. I am 1 minute to A20, 8 minutes to M20. 5 minutes to A2. 20 minutes is Trosely Country park on top of the north downs with views to the south downs.Originally posted by snaw View PostLong way from the city? Now all we need is several good schools and a bit of PR work...Comment

Odd how people often talk of a North/South divide when it is far more East/West. Look at North East LOndon - want to live in Willesden?Originally posted by Charles Foster Kane View PostIt is South London. Not West London. That was the point I was making.Comment
