Still not sure why I'd want to live in Canada in the first place though
I'd like to live somewhere where they speak English, have a culture broadly recognisable to me, where people are in the main decent, have a certain sense of self-respect reflected in a society that's not falling apart and a physical infrastructure that isn't torn apart for fun; where a respected and editorially independent broadcasting system is supported but not controlled by the government. Where it's not overcrowded, and you can live in a safe city, spacious suburbs, or empty space, as you like. A country not in hock to unstable sources of energy; a nation whose respected armed forces are for defence and rarely used to support others' invasions.

I'm sure I remember a place like that, but I'm damned if I see much of it now.

I looked into it a while back and don't want to piss on your parade too much, but look at the processing times to get permanent residency in Canada.

31+ months when applying from London !!

Best thing is to go over there find a job, apply for a 2 year temporary permit and then hope to find an employer to put you through a Provincial residency scheme once there.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a real contracting market there, its just equivalent of temp work

and the tax rates are horrendous apparently. This and other downsides are described in a Daily Mail article No wonder the local beavers bite off their wotsits: Why one man won't be joining the rush to move to Canada

That's really quite hilarious. Oh poutine....How I miss poutine... Poutine is only really availabe in eastern Canada, Quebec predominantly. Sounds like the reporter only visited Toronto and Toronto.

75 points for me, trouble is I know that already and have been at the Mrs for years to move but she don't want to leave family over here.

My brother is in Alberta and we go over every other year, it's great, we all love it. And Alberta is booming at the moment due to all the Oil they found in the sand there. Land is dirt cheap out there if you want to live like the Waltons
Politicians are wonderfull people, as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, like working for a living!

Taxes have eased up recently..and they don't have Inheritence Tax. I imagine taxes are equivalent if not lower. IT salaries seem to be...from my experience...much higher there.
