It's not as good now it's sold its soul to the corporate masses ... yada yada ... etc etc etc.

Hope you all have a great time. Not for me these days I'm afraid.Guy Fawkes - "The last man to enter Parliament with honourable intentions."Comment

I agree, but think that last great one was sometime in the early 90s. Would never go back now. The Beautiful Days festival seems to have taken over from the point where Glastonbury stopped being good. Glastonbury is all mainstream (read NME hyped) bands nowadays, it used to be really left field and eclectic.Originally posted by Alf W View PostIt's not as good now it's sold its soul to the corporate masses ... yada yada ... etc etc etc.

Hey, take a look at the line up - there's plenty of eclectisism there for anyone who wants it. In the nineties they were saying the same thing. Nothing will ever top woodstock man, well apart from the Vera Lynn shows for our boys in World War 2 that is.
Music is music, every genre and every generation has it good stuff, and garbage and hyped up garbage (Remember how many manc sounding bands arrived on the scene after the stone roses and the mondays, and then most indie kids hated dance music as well ... ). I get a bit hacked off with it being such a bandwagon, but the music is still good so I'll keep going to festivals (MY first glasto though, done all the others over many years - circumstances just seemed to conspire against me)Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

Can someone explain their appeal to me.Originally posted by Ruprect View PostSo, anyone else going?
Looking forward to Elbow, Raconteurs and the Ting Tings. Oh, and also spending a disproportional amount of time in the dance tent

They have cheeky girls (I know it's only one female) written all over them. Or is there some clever irony that I don't get cos I'm old(ish)?Comment

Its kind of wierd, I'm not that into the music, but the songs are catchy, and I think that it will "go off" in the tent when they play. More what I expect the atmosphere to be like rather than going for the musical talent. Sometimes you just get bands like that. Know what I mean?Originally posted by Pondlife View PostCan someone explain their appeal to me.

bbc weather has been different each day so I don't put much sway on that."Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny. "

Changes by the hour it seems, but generally it's ok (REad some onesite reports, and been a wee bit this morning but nothing heavy and now it's clear).
