Why don't we have a contracts-only job board on Contractor UK?
And leave all the perm / contract-to-perm malarki to JobServe.. all it would take is to let the 30-or-so most-well-known agencies know it's a serious advertising space. The key is to acknowledge the ways we know from our experience that agencies and clients like to work... eg. have a distinct info field for (1) Marketing shot, hi we're here (2) Current clients requiring info on skills available (3) Firm opportunities expected next month / such and such a date (4) Live, immediate opportunity.
If the site has a legally binding statement that says exactly what is expected from an agent accepting a CV in each of these categories, eg. Client name and job description for 3 / plus interview date for 4, then there is some cross-check and minimal prevention of the spamming that can go on on JobServe.
Also if the site has some defined rules about giving references, then again we can assert some better protection and help diffuse some of the cynicism around "scamming for references".
I'm not saying that a bit of bulltulip doesn't make things grow.. the point of this is to build a service that inspires more trust in the industry. Maybe I'm being naive but if we did this ourselves it could help us.
