Try living somewhere like the US - I've a good friend, unmarried female in her thirties, no major health issues, professional, non smoker. She lost her job, and had an option to keep on her health insurance, which she did - costs her $500 a month ...

I think NHS is one of the best things we have in this country, and I'd love to see the reaction of all those who bash it if they had a shot of living somewhere else without it for a wee while.

Especially if they get really sick sometime ... I broke a collar bone in Canada a few years ago, and dumbly forgot to get insurance - 1 hour in hospital, 1 x-ray and several thousand doallars later ...
Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

Think NI covers a few more things than just NHS mate, and you still pay income and state tax in the US ...

Healthcare is a euphemism for a parasite that creates sick people and feeds off them until they are nothing but senile and diseased tissue and failing organs. This is the ultimate goal. The dead and healthy are no use to a healthcare system and it would die without them. The healthier the healthcare, the more sick people it creates and consumes.

              Or is this unfair?

If I'm reading you right I think you've got it exactly wrong. Sick people don't need creating, they come around naturally - if anything they want less sick people cause they'll pay less money out (State or private, doesn't matter for this one - less sick people is better for both) or make more profit.

In the good old days people got better or died. Result: healthier people.

In the old days the people who didn't die lived the rest of their lives with oppressive illnesses/conditions/disabilities etc. Name pretty much any illness, and I'm sure quality of life is better under today's healthcare then it would have been in days of yore ...
