The issue is calculators. No-one should be allowed to use one until 18.
I tutored a 15 year old girl in maths once - bottom of class. She was top at 13. At 13 she had been bought a calculator. IMO there was a large correlation. The other being her horse riding obsession which her parents over indulged her in.Comment
