          La Manga (of English footballers' fame) is in Alicante. Nice place but it might break your budget.

                I will second that. Mrs Beaker and I went last year 3 times (over weekends). Cheap flights, good hotels, nice beaches & restaurants and the best weather in Spain (apparently). And hardly any Brits. They don't speak English too well, but as long as you can order food you're laughing.

                  Malta. Dirt cheap and lovely place to visit.

                  Also good for scuba diving.
