I thought Roger Moore was good in the role, but his Bond films got a bit camp and twee after a while with all that Jaws stuff for example.
It's probably a truism among meejia studies types, but the mood of Bond films seems to reflect that of society at the time (a bit like skirt lengths so they say).
So if Moore's films reflect the optimism following the cold war[*], it's no surprise that what with terrorism and the Iraq war and so on the Casino Royale remake was generally more grim and gritty than past films.
[*] Not sure they do without checking the dates, but can't be bothered.Comment
