Nope, Cambridgeshire is too crowded, you wouldn't like it here...Originally posted by moorfield View Post

Try visiting Scotland or - closer to home - Cambridgeshire. Plenty of quiet open space there.
There's nothing to see. Move along now.Comment

We NL-ed all our education, top to bottom, so that nobody had to fail. My daughter has actually been asked not to put her hand up so often in Maths with the answerOriginally posted by sasguru View PostIt's not the people claiming benefits. Germany has more.
It's the people in work are generally not as educated, skilled or dedicated as their European counterparts. You only have to compare a piece of British workmanship of any kind to a a German one to see the vast gulf in quality.
Many reasons for this, but I believe it's the lack of training at the lower end of society. Germany has a a brilliant apprenticeship scheme for the less-academic. We used to - what happened to it?
Ask a German manager of an engineering team what he does, he'll say "I'm an engineer". A Brit will say "I'm a manager". To the German, management is an activity, to the Brit it's a status. At the top end, British management is poor. We've all worked for managers who are numpties. There is cult of personality in most large companies so that the loudest and not necessarily best qualified gets the job.Comment

All very true. So we deserve what we get. What's WW2 again? Was that something to do with the Falklands, or the one where Oliver Cromwell fought King William? Always get them muddled up.Originally posted by Spacecadet View PostThere's at least 4 or 5 members of this board who remember thatComment

Most immigrants from EU are probably Polish. I think Western Europe owes them, and especially so UK - they were fighting here Luftwaffe and from what I have read about it they were very effective. After the war they were betrayed by (albeit weak) Western Europe and they effectively became slaves of USSR instead of getting freedom they were fighting for. The West owes them - not just Poland but also Checkz, Slovaks maybe even more so since they were sold to Hitler even before Poland was attacked, at least UK/France supported Poland militarily (albeit it was too late in practical terms due to new tactics of blitzkrieg).Comment
