No it's not just because I'm a contractor.

My missus and I put in a lot of hard work, researching, negotiating, physical building and decorating work. Bloody hard work.

I'm not some lucky banker with a non-performance-related bonus running into 6 figures every year.

I grafted somewhat, along the way.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

      Leading to an "above-average" income?

You seem to equate contractor with negative feelings - are you sure you're on the right board

I meant I grafted on the properties - I didn't just pay other people to do it - couldn't afford to.

I think you're the one with 'negative feelings' as I expect you have a suburban semi and a mortgage.

No, I sold up last year so I'm one of the "cash rich, waiting for a fall" brigade.

Good luck to one and all I say.

              So you're renting then?

Why not look abroad if you have the cash in hand?

I'm not ready to go yet - futurewife won't countenance emigrating until her folks are dead.

My situation too. Unusual on this board by the sound of it: you don't often see people admit to taking anybody else into account.

Is this like monaco? Can you buy your way in?

Don't own a house but then I neither have a mortgage or pay any rent. I do however have a truck load of cash in the bank.

A fall for me would be a good thing
