Edit: that would be kidney stones...snawIf you have gallstones without symptoms, you do not require treatment. If you are having frequent gallbladder attacks, your doctor will likely recommend you have your gallbladder removed—an operation called a cholecystectomy. Surgery to remove the gallbladder—a nonessential organ—is one of the most common surgeries performed on adults in the United States.

Coincidence
My sister was rushed to hospital this weekend with Pancreatitis caused by gallstones. They are incredibly painful. She is currently on morphine waiting to have her gall bladder out...
In general ultrasound is used for kidney stones, not gallstones. Apparently they can be treated by taking tablets if they are not too big but the problem is as soon as you get symptoms it's usually too late for that. Also once you start getting them they can keep coming back. I've only found out about them over the last two days so what I say (apart from the pain) might not be 100% accurate. YMMV....my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

There is some natural cure also which is apparently quite effective if the stones are not too big
