In pubs price of pint is getting closer to £3 and that's outside London, so 40p on £25 binge hardly makes any difference. -
Carling at the local off-license is 18*440ml cans for £9.99Originally posted by Marina View PostSpot on, no question about that.
and as more and more people get into the habit of buying tinnies in supermarkets more often (which is much cheaper anyway) and swigging them at home instead of propping up a bar, the more alcoholics there will be and domestic strife and more unemployed pub owners. Well done, Labour, another triumph of common sense over dogma!Comment

Ooh, what's that? Another way we can raise revenue while appearing to do so for the benefit of the community, yet without rocking the boat in any way? Bring it on!Originally posted by AtW View PostIn pubs price of pint is getting closer to £3 and that's outside London, so 40p on £25 binge hardly makes any difference.

At time of sales 2x 16 cans of something like John Smith or whatever can be had at supermarkets - the price of booze should be much higher than price of 0% ABV drinks and those are more expensiveOriginally posted by Churchill View PostCarling at the local off-license is 18*440ml cans for £9.99

I don't think they raise that much money from it - maybe another billion, but they will have to borrow tens of billions more.Originally posted by realityhack View PostOoh, what's that? The reason they raise it is because if they don't then it would create bad precedent for them not to raise duty regularly. All in all it won't cut down on binge drinking - I reckon prices on booze need to be at least doubled. The real problem are the youth who get drunk and commit crimes - those should get permament place in jail, so if Brown said - I raise taxes to build enough jails for judges to send that scum to prisons then I'd be okay with that.Originally posted by realityhack View PostEvery little helps...Comment

Which should is that? Why should it?Originally posted by AtW View PostAt time of sales 2x 16 cans of something like John Smith or whatever can be had at supermarkets - the price of booze should be much higher than price of 0% ABV drinks and those are more expensive
Why should the price not represent the cost of manufacturing and distribution (controlled economy), or the intersection between what sellers are prepared to accept and buyers are prepared to pay (market economy)?
You want it to be what would have the effect that you think is desirable (controlled population).Comment
