This sort of litigation annoys me and forces up insurance costs.

I hope the judge takes revenge.

Lets the guy win and get compensation of £200 then turns around and says each party has to pay the other sides legal costs.

An accountant is suing Marks & Spencer for more than £300,000 after claiming he injured himself during a shopping trip by slipping on a grape.
Alexander Martin-Sklan, 55, from Golders Green, north London, tore the tendon in his right leg in the car park of his local branch in June 2004.

He said a piece of fruit found on his shoe after the fall could have been picked up inside the store or car park.

The retail giant is contesting the High Court claim.

Mr Martin-Sklan, who is representing himself, is claiming for lost earnings on top of his general damages, because "loss of confidence" and depression following his injury led to him being unable to recruit new clients and contacts for his business.

He also said the physical effects stopped him from skiing and playing football or tennis.

What a cock. Hope he loses. Slipped on a grape in the car park.

What's new is that the Stella Awards are US cases - everyone knows their legal system is crazy. Like most things observed in Dilbert, everyone seems intent on importing any carp from the US here.

Worst of all seems to be a trend for Insurers to settle out of court to avoid having to pay a fortune for two daft stuffed shirts to navigate through the crazy and arcane labrinyth of adjourments and tea breaks that laughingly calls itself our justice system. So Mr (or Ms) Cock gets a payment and never has to answer to the merits of their claim.

I blame the legal "system" and the lawyers who run it at least as much as anyone else. On another thread we've debated the overmanning and and restrictive practices slashed by the mighty sword of Thatcher - shame she never got around to the Lawyers.

New Zealand has ACC, so no personal injury claims are allowed ever. Lawyers hate it, everyone else likes it, and my car insurance for a full year fo full cover on a £10k car was about £60 a year.

Its funded by a levy on busineses, not very much as well as any health and safety fines imposed on business due to bad safety. If you get injured you get 80% of your wages paid to you until you are well again, you are checked every week and they decide when you are ready to go back to work.

Also covers tourists, lot of yanks have tried legal proceedings and been shocked when told to get lost.

Frees up court time as well.

I cant believe the attitudes on this board. Grape is a very serious offence and the conviction rate is way too low. No wonder many people, accountants included, dont report it.
The effects of grape can include depression especially if you get done by a bunch of them

"Have you suffered a fall at work? perhaps you slipped on a sprout, or pulled your back out trying to moon on the photocopier? Well, we're here to help you. Here at vexatious ligitation ltd we'll make sure you can watch Jeremy Kyle at home for a year, without the worry of earning your own effing living. Why not abdicate personal responsibility for your own wellbeing, and walk away with a small fortune because you DON'T WATCH WHERE YOU'RE EFFING GOING!!"

"I definitely recommend Vexatious Litigation Ltd, they really helped me. They dealt with all the complicated legal stuff, what I don't understand, and explained that I would be able to screw over... ahem... get my fair share of compensation from my former employers. Plus, since bad backs are notoriously difficult to diagnose or disprove, I've filed a claim for full disability benefits, and I'll never have to get off my fat arse and earn a living again. Thanks VL".

Common sense prevails and he loses.

Hmmm, I haven't said "Common sense prevails" in a long time, and doubt I will again any time soon
