    New contractor taxes

    Any predictions for the budget?

They should announce exactly how they are going to slam married couples, as part of Labour's commitment to destroying the family and ensuring everybody becomes single mothers on benefits.

Of course we already have the massive Corporation Tax hike (3% in 3 years).

    Any other predictions?

We will no doubt get some previous tax cut re-announced and dutifully reported by the economically clueless BBC as a glorious New Labour freebie.

Taxes on booze no doubt. Alcopops probably. Doubt they will touch cider though.

Extra taxes on petrol are tricky at the moment, but they might still whack up the excise duty by inflation. They will balance this out by destroying the market for large, non-prestige cars, so that you will have to be a plutocrat to have a big engine.

Tough on small business, tough on the causes of small business.

Whatever they bring in, it'll be fair.

Tax credits already went up a lot last time, but the level at which they were withdrawn was increased. This was designed to encourage more people to work the minimum possible and rely on the state for support for the rest of their lives.

Firstly, what's the point in bothering, trying to predict something that's only a few days away.

Secondly, just go and read the newspapers, they have more informed predictions than anyone here can ever get. (Because they attend lobby briefings, which I wager no one here does. In fact, I'd put money on most not even knowing what they are.)

Its a good thing the sarcasm in DimPrawns post is subtle. Otherwise people might miss it.

                Why bother at all.

Mass suicide is surely more attractive.

I have a lobby pass, unfortunately security won't let me in the lifts, so I have to stay there watching the plasma screens.
