The thing is , at some point when you notice that they don't monitor you 24 hours , you start devoting more and more time to your own affairs. I am almost begining to take the money I get as granted. It will be hard sometime down the road , when I actually have to work hard to get it.

Can someone explain what this 'work' thing is please.
I've heard some of the permies in the office talking about it and I'd like to be able to join in so I can be 'one of the boys'.
Is it legal? Do I need any special equipment or training? Can anyone do it? Is it safe? Is there a club I can join to learn more about it?
TIA

I know it's illogical but I get really nervous around going home time on a friday when I think "They're about to take me into the managers office and say - thanks for your efforts but we won't need you any more - it's silly because they could do this at any time during the week".Originally posted by 2uk View PostThe thing is , at some point when you notice that they don't monitor you 24 hours , you start devoting more and more time to your own affairs. It's Deja-vu all over again!

Woman , I don't care about this and I have OCD ! Not getting worried about being sacked is my professional rule number 1. It was the greatest wisdom I inherited after my very first job , where I worked for 4 years.Originally posted by KathyWoolfe View PostI know it's illogical but I get really nervous around going home time on a friday when I think "They're about to take me into the managers office and say - thanks for your efforts but we won't need you any more - it's silly because they could do this at any time during the week".Last edited by 2uk; 7 March 2008, 15:40.Comment

In my last contract, solidly from when I arrived (between 8:30 and 9:00)through to when I left (between 5:00 and 5:30), didn't even take a lunch break most days. As the most senior (software) engineer on a team of 4 I virtually single handedly directed the project to a, not quite, on-time completion.
In the current contract, about 45 minutes a day (most days arriving at 8:45 and leaving at 16:15). I'm one of 400 people doing numpty work on a project running 9-12 months late. Oh and I'm on about 25% more money here.
Guess which type contract I would like next!

It's all a bit poor this isn't it? How much money is wasted by industry on contractors doing bugger all, not to mention claiming that they have no MOO.
Varies for me too. I've worked quite hard for the last 6 weeks or so as I had a big load of stuff to do before the end of my contract (finished about 3 weeks too soon). Now I'm just training my replacement.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment

I think big companies waste much money due to ineffective management and lack of coordination of team efforts ( compared to cost of contractors )Originally posted by VectraMan View PostIt's all a bit poor this isn't it?
