If they are worn at 6000 miles , plus all of the oil I am forever pouring in this thing, will make this the most expensive car on the planet to own.

Didn't I read somewhere about the rotor tips needing to be replaced in the rotary engine every x'000 miles and this costing a kings ransom, hence a lot of "cheap" RX7's and 8's with around 50k on the clock, maybe your's has just started early.

Was in my garage today when this geeky nerd came in with his nearly new car. I can smell 'em a mile off, so the kerching signs swam in front my eyes. I'm now busy replacing all his parts with some from a wreck I had in the back yard. You should see the state of "his" rear tires. We're doing most of the engine parts now...

What's it like to own a 1.3L car that does 15 MPG and uses more oil than a chip-shop?

I always go for the cheapest available myself. Usually around £35-£40 per tyre fitted and balanced. Never had any problems with them and they seem to last just as long.

I find cheap tyres actually last longer but they generally have naff all grip compared to the better ones and sometimes tend to be noisier too, so I get the best I can afford these days.

Absolutely! Cheap tyres seem to be made of some hardened slippery material that never wears out and makes the car handle like it's on black ice 24/7

Avoid. Buy the best (softest) tyres out there that last the shortest amount of time.

My s2000 has bridgestones, admittedly not the best in the wet but great tyres in the dry.

assuming your tyres are 225 / 45 R 18 the price you were quoted is good if they are Bridgestones, Dunlops may be cheaper though.

Most (90%) of my miles are on the motorway so grip, although always important, is not quite as critical as I don't do much fast tight cornering - another reason my tyres last so long!

I reckon I only spend about £80 a year on tyres and I drive about 20,000 miles.

yeah, they need a rebuild about 60K and that is an expensive job,...about 5K I reckon.
