Pearse appears to have successfully flown and landed a powered heavier-than-air machine on 31 March 1903, some nine months before the Wright brothers. The documentary evidence to support such a claim remains open to interpretation, however, and he does not appear to have developed his aircraft to match the Wrights' achievement of sustained, controlled flight. I too don't watch much rugby (my side England are just so boring, even when they do win) but I know plenty who do. And, guess what, they're license payers too. So kudos to the Beeb for showing the rugby - as another poster said we've got so many channels to choose from now it doesn't really matter.
