Suffice to say that IR35 (yes, remember?) set the tone for our relationship with the party in power. The Paymaster General, no less, compared us to 'glorified typists' and war was promptly declared.

All these news stories about new measures Hector is putting in place makes me wonder - why are contractors getting so much attention?

Don't they have other areas where they could try and close 'loopholes'.

Is it just because they think we're easier to come after than super rich and big businesses?

Generally speaking Labour hates freelancers - they don't fit in with that nice socialist world which requires all workers to be helped as they are oppressed by those nasty rich capitalists.

It's not just New Labour.

Old Labour in 1979 stopped freelancers from being Sole Traders, suing an egency for millions (alot of money then). This started the whole Limited Company shebang.

It is quite permissible to make up quotes or anything else that shows New Labour in a bad light, even if not originally true it has a moral honesty that makes it true. She definitely did say that even if she didn't.

I also read that she said that all contractors are "mere scum who should be exterminated, or taxed at 150% on all income before being chemically castrated". I read it on a forum.
