Result: More criminals go free with the death penalty. Plus criminals would have a 'nothing to loose' attitude. There is something to be gained for both sides in taking prisoners. Worse than all the innumerable disadvantages though is what it says about a society that kills its people. We would be no better than animals or a third world country like America.

This is a myth. If someone is going to lop your head off they are going to lop your head off regardless of what the penalty for lopping your head off is!

Just as heads hanging on the tower bridge didn't stop traitors trying to sell the country to the Catholics, so the same goes for the death sentence, someone isn't going to be more likely to kill you because of it.

If anything, the ability to sentence someone to death is there as an option and just because you have been sentence to death doesn't mean you get the kiss of death straight away (just ask that geezer just released after 20 years on death row in the states).

IF you are all spineless twats, as I suspect, then life should mean exactly that...LIFE!

As that other spineless twat proved this morning on the news (Home Office minister) when she kept on harping on about life sentences getting longer, unfortunately the numb nuts interviewing her didn't ask her what the hell she was going on about as life should be LIFE, not 5 years on holiday and then getting out scot-free!

So, as I said earlier...what we should really be debating is the method a piece of scum is done in...not whether they should be done in or not.

Anyway, some of you crybaby girls should take a leaf out of Chopper Rieds book!

Okay, it looks as if you acknowledge that the death penalty (“loping someone’s head off’) doesn’t act as a deterrent. Was that meant to bust the myth you mention?

What kind of work do you do in IT?

Indeed. Take off and nuke the entire planet from orbit. It's the only way to be sure we kill all the bad people.

Its pointless having toothless laws that do nothing. At least with the death penalty you will remove the worst of the worst offenders from society...unlike what you have at the moment with life sentences (where they get out after 5 minutes).

As a good example, think back to the last time you were in a true rage (maybe this morning in your car on the way to work! ) and think about it for a second. I bet you will find that there was very little that could have stopped you while you were in that state of absolute rage.

Finally it all comes down to pity.

I bet you lie in bed at night bashing your forehead into your pillow, crying at the pitiful hand life has dealt you.

Why so angry Mailman. Share your fears, we can help you. There's no judgement here.

Of course your ignorance has stopped you from seeing what Im trying to say here.

If a person is going to murder you, they are going to murder you end of story. No laws or possible consequences (or lack thereof) is going to stop them from murdering you.

Slapping them with a wet rag, or your wit, isnt the solution but removing them permanently from society is.

Now, perhaps there would be no need for the death sentence if life in prison ment exactly that.
