            A bottle is generally 75cl, i.e. 3 large glasses (250ml).

              = ~10.5 units

I suppose you don't often get "good" wine in litre bottles

                units of grog = (%age / 1000) * no of ml

                e.g. can of Stella = (5 / 1000) * 500 = 2.5

According to http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7201874.stm, a bottle of wine (12.5%) is 9 units, so 14% must be only just over 10 units.

yes but that isn't 1 unit.

if you are talking wine then 1 unit = 125ml glass of 8% abv wine

calculate it by mutiplying volume of drink(ml) by %abv and divide by 1000.

175ml (small glass) of 12%abv is 2 units

                      750ml bottle X 14%abv / 1000

                      = 10.5 units
