I once hit Audi A3 in the back - very very little touch really at 5-10 mph with a small nudge on rear bumper. We settled privately - garage quoted ~£700, with the one before trying to rip off claiming roll bars were shifted so price could be £2-3k. Still even first quote was steep, but I was happy. That was fairly old Audi, total price no more than 7-8k.

Alexey,
was than another crash or the one where your sister scratched the car next to your one ?
do you settle all your crashes privately hence enabling your no claims bonus not to be forfeited ?
wouldn't it be better to pay the extra for the protected no claims bonus ?
or do you simply carry a a couple of grand in cash every time you drive incase you have to pay for damage to another vehicle ?
when you settle privately do you report the crash to the police ?

sas, as soon as I pressed submit I knew that line was a mistake
still a fact is a fact the pathfinder has a certain presence on the road which in central europe where 1100 people died in car crashes last year the presence is useful

You don't have to report anything to police if noone is hurt. It was basically a bump in the rare, private matter between two citizens that was resolved to satisfaction of both sides.
I do have protected no claims bonus now. But for small stuff it is better to settle privately, if someone scratched accidentally someone elses car then it's a small matter.Comment

Numpty, I have common sense - the other person was English. Even though I think he ended up pocketing the money instead of fixing the car, but I've seen garage quote - personally I was pleased to have settled the matter. Pricey for sure, but scratching that first car (Skoda) ended up costing about the same amount.Originally posted by milanbenes View Postyou can take the man out of Russia but you cannot take the Russian out of the manComment

I had the call and the price is in ................. Engine warning light turned out to be the MAF sensor only needing a clean, cambelt and waterpump replaced.
They gave me discount because of the age of the car (5 years) which is odd but Im not complaining total cost was £515.90 a lot cheaper than I thought
