The full problem is "Create a square with exactly the same area as a circle, using only compass and ruler". Can't be done. The answer is as easy as π as any fule kno'.

Why is it that any thread here that requires intellect gets hijacked to the lowest common denominator?

to get this thread back on track - you have a tape going all the way round the earth. you raise the tape by 1 metre all the way round. how much longer does the tape need to be to stop it breaking?

Haven't looked at today's page 3 (yet) but the answer is 2 x pi metres.

If the tape was already at the widest part of the earth, then surely it would get shorter, not longer? Or do I need more coffee?
