      Both.

But if you say "Only a fool ignores the two second recommendation" then that takes longer than the two seconds it takes to say "only a fool ignores the two second rule", which is why some people refer to it as a rule.
      Correct but....

The highway code are recommendations, codes they are not legally binding. However most of it (if not all) has been passed into law in some form or another and you can get charged for breaking it.

Now there is no "drive closer than 2 seconds" law but you would probably get done for dangerous driving.

you want to store them as text, can't you enough meta data to the pdf's ? do you really need to be able to search on any word in the document or can't you have classifications of the documents and have some kind of taxonomies ?

        Milan in KM mode.
The problem is at what point do we put metadata on the document. Some documents are easier than others to sort out, which is what the workshops are designed to bottom out. At the moment, the technology partner seems to be adopting an approach of "it's complicated for us to do that", and doesn't want to put any metadata on the document apart from when did it arrive, who scanned it, and what type of document it is. I want to put metadata in that says who sent it, what is it about, what invoice number is it, is this a new document or a response, date range etc. etc. but am being shouted down at the moment. Time will tell at the end of the workshops - I think we will come full circle and decide to store the metadata.

        Anyway

And I'm off to today's workshop

While this is happening lane 2 can still be moving.

In heavy traffic I tend to get in with the trucks and creatively use the slip roads!
You describe 'slow lane theory', it works on quite a few of my commutes, M6/M62 is good for it. I've got all sorts of theories for tackling the M6/M62/M60/M56 mess but if you are in a good mood just sticking in the slow lane and not lane weaving is the best for your sanity and often the quickest.

Are you saying you leave the motorway on the slip road and come back on the other side of the roundabout, that is desperation stuff, I'd slag you off but I did it earlier this week after the M60 crash were the old duffer did a U turn.

            Roots,

            FAQ,

I'd stick to your guns and get that meta data stored, it'll pay dividends in the end

sounds like you need to do some lobbying higher up and get some managers behind your ideas, then the supplier will have to listen and obey, still I can't see why they are so reluctant, can't they simply charge for the additional complexity and get some £$£ out of it ?

However, I agree with Wilmslow on this one, especially on the M62 over the Penines.

I spend quite a lot of time on this road and what tends to happen is that you get some numpty on one of the hills sticking in lane 3 at 65 MPH.
Many times I have been behind this idiot wanting to go faster than him, but I keep my distance and wait for him to move over, knowing that If I undertake him I am at fault.

However, if the guy behind me undertakes us both, is that my fault?

well Wilmslow is keeping a two second gap between him and the car in front, so maybe the car in front does not realise that Wilmslow wants to get past and therefore does not get out of the way,

perhaps if from time to time especially when Wilmslow wants to go faster than the car in from and maybe to give the car in front the indication that Wilmslow wants to go past maybe he should reduce the gap a little bit

I can now understand more why people are tailgating Wilmslow because he is sat there two seconds from the car in front of himself and not making any attempt to the car in front of him that he wants to get past

I am beginning to like the German trick where they put on the indicator when someone in front won't get out of the way, it's more sublte and polite than giving the car in front a nice blast of the xenons however the latter always works as a last resort so I am told.

I find sticking mainbeam on, leaning constantly on the horn and zooming at breakneck speed towards the rear bumper whilst giving them the finger in my big BMW works well.

I would enjoy casually letting you through and then doing the same to you once you've gone past me.
