A bit of trivia from one of the mornings papers here for those in the UK.
Bear in mind though that Belgium of course hasn't had a government for 6 months this year so it's been a little bit slower than usual out the blocks...

"Despite the absence of a full government the Belgian federal departments (Flanders/Wallonia etc) produced 66,290 pages of new legislation in 2007, making it the third highest on record after 2004 with 87,430 and 2006 with 76,468.
Since 2000 a total of nearly half a million new pages of law (499,371 to be precise) have been introduced.
Ten years ago there were 'just' 35,508 pages, while in 1989 only 21,634 and in 1950 only 9,193"
Surely with 60m people and NL the UK could beat this?
