Thought of that with my new job 60 miles away.

there is a problem in moving - the outside of the house is a rubbish tip and there are always loads of random cars, vans and chav behaviour from the house.

Also, the extension is very imposing with the obvious parking problems even from a reasonable neighbour.

Sadly, my house is now very unsellable meaning hard to even sell and move on

Update.
I live in a lovely peaceful neighbourhood with nice 2 bed semi’s and elderly folk. This guy has changed his 2 bed into a 5 bed gypsy den with random vans including people urinating in the back garden and treating the field at the back as their own garden having built over theirs.

How on earth did they get planning permission to do that ?

Having once lived in a flat with noisy neighbours I know its a tricky situation and difficult to avoid escalating into something worse. Take turns with your neighbours to keep pestering the rozzers and local council - once they realise it's consuming their time and resources they'll start paying more attention to it. They may well be able to serve an ASBO on the gypsies - not sure how that will improve matters though.

Exactly Moorfield. He applied for a small set back extension for his disabled mum (who is not disabled!) then built forward of the house taking over 90% of the land meaning they have no garden. Council granted permission assuming they had 3 parking spaces at the front. They now only have one, and park all over the area blocking drives and being verbally aggressive to people when they ask them to be considerate.

Hence my tactic of getting everyone to contact the one police officer, knowing she will not deal, then take it up with her sergeant who will then be forced to come out and hear 5 angry households. (Could get many more, but my lounge only fits so many people even with my super large leather sofas!)

Assuming sergeant does not get resolved, we are all jointly happy to go up the ranks, hold joint meeting with council, even go to the local paper to see if they will campaing with us and shame the police and council assuming they have not dealt with the issues.

Plan B is for the mechanic to plonk a car in front of my house to protect my drive, if that gets vandalised then myself and mechanic will be very happy as means we will have more of a case against them.

A real shame, a lovely scenic civilised area other than the gyspy lot. You should hear the language and aggressive behaviour, bad for any kids in the area and elderly folk who are affected as well.

Then it sounds like you have reasonable grounds to make a complaint to the council planners just for that - check their website you should be able to find the original application online if it was recent and there will be some FAQs somewhere on how to lodge a complaint. It may not achieve anything ultimately, but the council will have to investigate and respond.

Okay, here is an update.....

Got a call from the police on Friday asking if things are resolved. I did not call back (voicemail).

Came home - no cars or vans parked outside my house. Looks like the police have had words.

Went to a neighbours to collect a parcel - on my way back, the neighbour causing the problems yelled 'You tw@t, I am going to kick your fluckling head in'.

Needless to say, recorded what he said and passed this onto the police.

Personally, I am thinking it may be time to involve my local counsellor. Shouting is one thing, threats is another league.

Oh, he had one of his many children by him - fine role model of a father...

Slightly picky but it only needs to be insured. You can get round the taxed and MOT's by applying for an agricultural exemption. This does give rise to significant usage restrictions (no more than 1km or aggregate of > 10km per week).

Agricultural exemptions are not hugely difficult to obtain. Granted if you live in the middle of a city you may have some difficulty convincing them you need the exemption because you graze a goat on the bit of common land down the road.

That's the trouble - He can't graze a goat down the road, because his neighbours from hell will just go and get it.

Personally I would invest in some cheap CCTV and put it up out of sight.. you can get wireless ones with infrared night vision etc pretty cheap on ebay.. just leave it recording to your computer 24/7? Might come in very handy...

Also the threats, surely the Police should be taking action over this kind of behavior?

Totally sympathise with your position here, but stick to your guns and don't confront it directly, keep to the authorities it's their job to resolve this.

Yep. Read the planning guidance, some is national and some is council specific, lots of crappy stuff to read but worth it. You will not be able to appeal, but you can make a formal complaint that the council are not following their own rules.
Two things that jump out are building forward of the existing building front and reduction of amenity space (building on the garden). Both of those would kill an application round here.

Done that now - bought a wireless one to PC for just £35. Got an old Siemens P4 desktop that I have decomisisoned for my laptop, so will jack that up and running again.

Just need to work out how to get the camera feed on a continuous record, and overwrite after a couple of days or so to avoid filling up the hard drive in no time!

May even get it up and running in the garage to be honest - don't like the risk of fire with a PC left on in the house, but happy for this to be in the garage. cheers for the advice!
