It's probaly a generational thing & you don't see the truth in it i.e. that you define your lives in terms of how and when you die.

I see it more in terms of how you've lived & death is just a part and parcel of the process

Well we all knew Diana, the only reasonable justification for sadness would be your offspring & then on a sliding scale your immediate family (but we all expect our Mothers & Fathers to go before us anyway in the natural order of things).

Colleagues / friends / acquaintances are all just flotsam on the road of life

It doesn’t really matter what you think or how logically you try and make your point, right or wrong you are posting in extremely poor taste. The original poster is clearly upset and you have derailed this thread to try and show off how clever you think you are.

Yes life can be quite haunting at times. A couple of years ago I was reading on the web about the funeral of some bloke's father, and the one of the church people (an usher or something) collapsed and died in the church during the service.

I was thinking of telling this story to some of the blokes at the office (with obligatory dark humour such as two funerals for the price of one) when I found the son was ones of the guys in the office. Eek!

I kept my mouth shut.
