On a related note. What’s the cheapest way to get Internet connected when on the move (for occasional use only)? I thought something along the lines of a Pay-A-You-Go phone and a 56K modem. Do any PAYG phones for example have a line out that would allow connection to a modem? I believe there are a few ISPs around that provide a dialup connection using a local rate number, which costs around 1p a minute.

Three do £5 a month for an add-on to their phone service, which you can use. You're not meant to, but you can.
They also do a PAYG 3G USB modem - not sure of the price, though. I pay £15 a month for mine for 3GB downloads.

Thanks for the info. Do you get unlimited connection time with that £15/month package?
Just to elaborate, I realise their are download limits, but I wondered whether there are limits on the time connected too?
No limit on connection time. 3GB download limit, but I don't think that most people will hit that - just means you spend less time "downloading" over the connection.

I’ve just been looking at their £10/month Broadband Lite package, and it seems pretty good considering it’s about half the price of my fixed landline and ISP costs. But I can’t figure out from their site whether the broadband package is a modem only, or whether a mobile phone comes with it too?

T-Mobile do Web-n-Walk, I think its £12.99 pcm and gets good reviews.

USB modem only.
You could put the SIM card in a phone and use it to receive calls, too, though. And you can send texts through the modem and software.
