That made me smile! I have to say you're lucky you can do that, I'm in a detached house so I have to generate my own heat

When I measured my CRT vs the LCD's I found the running current was less on the old CRT's. My measurements were... 33" Toshiba 4:3 CRT with in built sub woofer and dolby surround (the old prologic). That consumed 9W in standby and 70W when running. The replacement 37" LCD uses around 170W when running but <1W in standby.

CRT's do use a lot less than LCD's (at the moment) and many other people have discovered this. The benefit for you though is the heat they generate is keeping your flat warm!

It plugs in-line with the device like a timer. I got mine from germany while I was out there and they claim it's highly accurate. I tried a 60W light bulb on it and guess what... it measured 60W! You can get similar devices from the likes of maplins I believe.

I’m replacing them as and when starting with the ones that tend to stay on the longest. Probably about 60% done now. LCD is next

i've replaced all the standard bulbs (tesco's) but i have a few uplighter dimmer light types lights, cant find a energy saving dimmer bulb anywhere.
