    An ex-contractor at the Department for Work and Pensions had two discs with thousands of benefit claimants' details for more than a year, the DWP says.

    Is this news - to us anyway? Isn't personal data of this kind very likely to be splattered all over the globe, on all sorts of media - hard drives, flash drives, CDROMS, you name it? Anyone care to admit to it? I didn't think so Credit cards numbers is a biggie though, and granted perhaps NI numbers too.

      And somehow the ID card scheme is supposed to prevent this beause of its "layer of biometric" security. Balderdash!

        Don't worry. I have it on good authority that if someone gets hold of the string of ones and zeroes representing your retina scan and copies it, the government will issue you with a new pair of eyes.

          Not me, I've had my personal backup from before I left the UK to live somewhere more sane, and that's way more than 2 years.
