The fact of the matter is that DA (despite his being an Agent, a fact that seems to irrationally cloud the judgment of some on here) has a very valid point. 95% of accidents do not occur as a result of speeding, they arise due to poor driving ability. Yet the powers that be choose to focus almost exclusively on that, which says more about it's capacity for raising revenue than it does about it's causal effect on accident statistics. The current "safe" speed limits were devised almost arbitrarily in the 50s when braking distances and top speeds were vastly different to those applicable to modern vehicles. I would far rather see the top limit for motorways set to 80 with a real drive to catch and punish those that transgress it than the current 70mph to which very few adhere anyway. I would also like to see the limit around Schools for example set to 20, and stringently enforced too. In Sweden for example, if you speed close to a school you are turfed out of your vehicle and it is taken away and destroyed. Guess how many Swedes speed near schools?
In essence what is needed is a total review of what constitutes acceptable speed limits, but it is unlikely to happen as it would prove costly to undertake and, more potently, would in all probability result in a drop in the monies currently harvested from the unfortunate road using population.
“The period of the disintegration of the European Union has begun. And the first vessel to have departed is Britain”
Habitual speeders are still getting away with it often enough to think that they are "right" and "safe"
As has been said in this thread already, the line has to be drawn somewhere, you know where the line is, don't cross it and don't risk a speed ticket. Cross it and you know whats coming.
The UK has the safest roads in Europe so clearly something is being done right.
If you want to drive as fast as you like then go to track days

There is nothing wrong with breaking the speed limit in certain situations. It is not dangerous and nor is it anti social. And as for your need to"have the line drawn somewhere" then I ask Why?
Why not draw the line at the beginning and ban cars? that way there would be no deaths on the roads at all.
Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyone
For what it's worth I think 30 mph is too fast in town, 70 too slow on motorways and if there were an accident involving a pedestrian the car driver is assumed at fault, except in exceptional circumstances.
