Most FWD cars do it to some degree. Years ago I had a Calibra, and Vauxhall had pretty much eradicated the torque steer, something to do with making the drive shafts even lengths. So not only can it be done, it can be done by Vauxhall. I don't understand why they haven't tried harder with the VXRs.Will work inside IR35. Or for food. -
Bangernomics ! I had a P vectra that was running like a dream at well over 100K, a neighbour ran into it while it was parked up and effectively scrapped it so he bought it off me for a few hundred and about a month later all the electrics packed in. My current model is an R that I got given for free, approaching 100K and showing no signs of packing in, it is looking very ropey and I'm ready to scrap it if it will only start to disintegrate ! I've gone onto a zero maintenance policy.Originally posted by Chugnut View PostMe: P reg Vectra, 128k up, disintegrating fast, the scarp yard beckons.Comment

Mine did about 110K, but I think the head gasket was going. I sold it on ebay (I was honest about the problem) but still got £500. Then I bought a Primera GT for £995, which is a great car, never goes wrong ever despite me doing 35K per year and thrashing it the whole time. Q. Which car is most environmentally friendly?
A. A 2nd hand one.
Think of the energy and materials that go into making and distributing a new car. By not buying a new car you are making that investment in energy and materials go that bit farther.
Recycle and reuse.
Well done.Comment

An early role model was a mates Dad who bought Austin Maxis from a local garage at I think 70 quid a go at the time with a new MOT. When they bust he'd just instantly scrap it for a few quid and go and buy another for 70 quid.Originally posted by VectraMan View PostMine did about 110K, but I think the head gasket was going. I guess the answer is it's a lot more than for a banger, but a fraction of what it would have been had I had it for the first 2.5 years as well. Remember this is a car that is 95% as nice as it was when someone paid 25K+ for it.Originally posted by Moscow MuleIsn't £100 a month quite a lot for depreciation on a used car?
My previous car cost £6000 nine years before I sold it for £500, so I'm not going to beat the depreciation on that. But this time round I was deliberately paying more to get more.
Just re-done the calc, it's actually £80 a month. (Cost £7200 at 30 months old, assume it will be worth 0 at 10 years = 120 months, plan to keep it that long, so depreciate on a straight-line basis for simplicity, so £7200/90 = £80.)
Having said that, previous car was fifteen years old when I sold it, if I kept this one that long then depreciation would be £48 per month.Last edited by IR35 Avoider; 1 November 2007, 13:25.Comment

Very nice Jog on, I had a Vtec H-Reg that was 2 yrs old when I got it, I loved it and couldn't sleep for days before I went to get it. Never had the same feeling since even when I got a 911 and an SLK 320.Originally posted by Jog On View PostHonda CRX 16V (not VTEC)
