I went to a tulip comprehensive. Luckily I have a brain, so was able to get on in life. Many of my less brainy, but not dunces, pals didn't do too well.

Is it the case that a private education will, even if one is a bit thick, still allow one to get on later in life, owing to a "posh" accent, old pals' act, etc.? Or is that just rubbish?

I think so - I've seen a few utterly bumbling managers get by like that for a while - but without 'friends in high places' they soon get found out, lose respect and have to move on where they start the act all over again.

Even those with connections generally don't command much respect from their subordinates - and word gets around, so it all evens out a bit.

Luckily, most are screened at the uni stage - but with uni standards lately that counts for nothing.

Went to a real tuliphole comprehensive. I can have a school reunion anytime by visiting Barlinnie Prison.

I went to a private boarding school – left at 17 with no a-levels didn’t go to uni.

Hasn’t made the slightest bit of difference to how I’ve got on in life – in fact when I was in a city contract I was quite the fish out of water

Comprehensive - personally I think independent do a good job of getting the best out of average people, whereas very few state school pupils come out ahead unless they've got abundant natural talent or parents who push them. But that's a wee bit simplistic.

Flip side is that many people I know who went to indpendent, especially the guys who went to same sex schools seem to have a higher chance of being messed up and dysfunctional later in life.

Independent schools train the elite on how to own, control and manipulate the means of production. This involves, inter alia, allocating capital, maximising rents and profiting from the surplus value of labour. If one finds oneself having to work after being let into these secrets, then one should consider oneself a complete and utter failure in life. Finishing school is usually one of the older Oxbridge colleges.

State school is for poor people who have to sell their labour. The whole machinery of the organisation is centred around 'getting a good job' and maximising the resale value of their labour to 'good employers'.

                    So it's a no-brainer really.

So true. I wish some **** had only told me this when I was at school.
