Ok now guys i now some serious answers, i reas that some of you guys always take your laptops with you on first day etc?

I have always refused to use or own a Laptop -some companies wont be happy with you bringing one on site - especially if they are security concious.


Much better is a good old fashioned Diary - be careful to write down and note the names of your fellow IT workers.

Note the number of your telephone extension.

Find out if the office is closed or not during public holidays.

Thats about it.

I always expect problems with login first week sometimes. So first week is reading project docs. Who has the latest version on their desktop usually passes the first day.

My last gig was with a previous employer - so im asking you guys for some advice on first days...

prepare for a list of stupid panicked questions by me...

You need to ask what the protocol is for Friday afternoons when you've had a few beers down the pub - do they expect you to slip off quietly without anyone noticing or sit quietly at your desk until 5.
