I had 3 weeks in Florida over Xmas/New Year with the missus and kids so decided to work this year and try and get the mortgage down a bit. I have been to France a couple of times for weekends and have a luxury weekend booked in Harrogate for September but they don't count. Apart from that might go somewhere hot when my contract ends in January,

Been there. No one speaks English and you can't get a decent egg and chips. Benidorm was better.

The Isle Isle of Syke for 10 days - ye cannae whack it.

Well, I just come down from the Isle of Skye
I'm not very big and I'm awfully shy
The lasses shout as I go by

          Shout "Alfred -where's your troosers?"

          Let the wind blow high
          Let the wind blow low
Through the streets in a kilt I go
          All the lasses shout hello
          Alfred - where's yer troosers?

A lassie took me to the ball
And it was slippery in the hall
I was afraid that I would fall
          Cause I was'nae wearin' troosers

          Let the wind blow high
          Let the wind blow low
Through the streets in a kilt I go
          All the lasses shout hello
          Alfred - where's yer troosers?

To wear the kilt is my delight
I'm never wrong 'cause I'm always right
The highlanders would get a fright
If they saw me wearin' troosers

Well, I was drivin' in my car
          Went downtown to kenny's bar
          Fifteen scotches, five cigars
And I left without my troosers

Went to Isle of Skye on a Geology field trip back when I was an undergrad - had a cliff hanger experience when climbing the cullin mountain.

But enjoyed the regatta. Not sure I want to visit again though

AJP, how much is the weather a deciding factor when contemplating a holiday to the Scottish isles?

My good lady wants to go to the Hebrides in September. Would a week's rain ruin the whole thing, or should I be steely and admire the rainswept brooding hills?

Africa at Christmas. 12p for a bottle of beer. £40 per night to stay at a tropical paradise with polite and hard-working staff. Who could ask for more?
