I'm taking voluntary redundancy, but am not finishing work for 2 weeks yet so I have not had much time to do things.

I put an advert in the London Uni careers service for £120 for people with no IT experience. Got 36 applicants.

Then my current employer, who were going to use my new Ltd company's services pulled out. So all wasted.

But not quite as they wanted to hire some analysts directly. They pay 20% of salary to agents, so I said "how about 12% from me?".
One of the 36 DID have relevant IT experience, and I brought them in for interview with the client. Didn't get the job.

Then I paid £100 to put an advert for experienced people in Jobserve, and got 13 applicants. One of them was very suited to the role, so he came in for interview, passed that, and will be brought in for a second interview in a couple of days.
If he gets the job, and accepts it, then I make commission of £3K. We'll see.

What else? I've set up a crappy website talking about my recruitment services, and advertised it on Google Adwords. Spent £10 for 7 clicks so far. No emails or calls yet.

Also for a laugh put an item up for sale on Ebay. One day of consultancy. Starting bid £0.01

    no bids yet...

you need to hit the phones there is no other way of getting business. It is a hard slog but once you have made two or three calls it becomes a lot easier.

You cannot sit and wait by the phone as I can assure you that it will not ring .

target yourself to make 40 calls a day and keep each one brief and to the point. Set objectives for each call and every activity you do.

report back here in 4 weeks and let us know how you have got on.

Think it's the dodgy photo in a pub that does it!

What are those women behind him doing?

          Has he farted?

          Is he wearing trousers?

            LOL you found it then

I just posted it for a laugh.

I suppose I better put my suit on and get a proper photo done...

I don't know why those women had their faces covered. I presume I must have told a funny joke - NOT!

              I think you're right.
There are recruitment agents on the web, such as

              http://www.net-recruit.co.uk

but they charge what seems to be 1.5% of the salary (£500 flat fee).
              I can't compete with that.

I'll let you know how I get on.
              Cheers

                    Yes for sure.

If there is a company that is prepared to hire me for a day then there is a good chance that they will have odd jobs that they need doing on a regular basis. Not only will that help me escape IR35 (multiple clients), but also shows that the client is likely to be flexible enough to consider ideas such as me providing them with staff (so profit margin for me) or allowing me to bring along trainees who I can also farm work out to.
Of course this is all highly speculative, and probably completely foolish, but you never become a millionaire by doing conventional.

BTW the Friday bit is because my current employer is giving me fridays off for free to look for another job. Supposedly.
