By your twisted logic British atrocities from 100+ years ago automatically result in every current British citizen being branded an evil bastard. Some new news, attitudes change! Acceptable behaviour today is substantially different to even 10 years ago.Originally posted by Old GregDaily Mail has form going back a long way. From early 20th century (1905 ish?) Jewish immigration to support for Moseley's British Union of Fascists in the '30s ('Hurrah for the Blackshirts' is the quoted headline but I don't know whether that's an urban myth or not). I don't know of anything post-war, but I don't know whether they've apologised either.
With regard to apologies; why should anybody want to apologise for actions over which they had no control (i.e. probably weren't born)? I believe a similar question was posed regard apologising for the slave trade in another thread, with no satisfactory answer from the apologist camp.
Israel is guilty of a land grab according to our left-wing brethren:
# Israel set-up by United Nation mandate.
# Arabs don't like this.
# Egypt, Syria, Jordan all attack prompted by Egypt's president Nassar in an attempt to wipe Israel off the map. They get there collective arse kicked and LOSE land. Spoils of war.
# At one time Israel was not above ceding land in return for peace, as proved by the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel where Israel withdrew from the Sinai desert.
# I suspect that it is in the interests of the Arab nations to keep the Israel/Palestinian problem festering, it diverts attention from their own internal problems. Its nice having a bogey man on which to focus the citizens attention (that reminds me Terrorism in the UK mmmmmmmm?).
# I have every sympathy for Israel. It appears to me that they have done nothing but defend themselves. I suppose our left-wing brethren would reward aggression as opposed to dishing out the kicking it deserves.
OG have you attended a Polly Toynbee correction camp lately?Comment

Twisted logic - I wasn't condemning the Daily Mail, just explaining someone else's comment, so your 1st paragraph is nonsense.Originally posted by AddancBy your twisted logic British atrocities from 100+ years ago automatically result in every current British citizen being branded an evil bastard. I didn't say the Daily Mail should apologise, but if it had, it would have been noteworthy in my explanation of someone else's comment. So your 2nd paragraph is nonsense. Not doing too well so far. Let's see how you get on from here.
I don't agree with the UN mandate because it kicked the people living in the territory already were kicked out. This is a matter that is debated as to its historicity and extent, but that's my view.
Israel occupies land in defiance of UN resolutions (remember that UN you were so keen on?) and acts illegally (under international law) within that occupation - settlement being an obvious example.
I suspect you are right about Arab countries having an interest in continuing the situation. That doesn't justify Israeli occupation.
You have every sympathy for Israel - how much for the Palestinians?
I've never liked Toynbee so I'm unlikely to have attended any of her camps - didn't even know she ran any.
Suggest you engage brain a bit better next time.Comment
