We are fortunate enough to be able to escape our no go area cities but the really dangerous lot are not. You had better deal with the reasonable people before the unreasonable people force you to listen.
Were you this vociferous against the Irish Republicans?

PS I raised a valid point about your made-up figures which were ripped apart by Old Greg. Why is that a "win-win" discussion? Your constant innuendo fools no-one, we all know what your real agenda is. And guess what, what really pisses you off is you won't achieve it.
You and I know in the end Old Greg and I agreed on a compromise position. Given the estimates involved all had their problems this was quite a result. What we disagreed upon was that the agreed 'likely situation' was in fact a problem. He and others claiming I was a racist not wishing to be in a minority in my own country. I'm bored with you, you have nothing to add to any debate, now poodle off.

I find all religions pretty ridiculous, and all fundamentalisms vicious, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu. Christian fundamentalism is alive and well in the US, but somehow God doesn't tell them to go and blow themselves up taking civilians with them. God did however tell George Bush to invade Iraq. Result - how many dead? Take your pick from all the different sources. I don't see much difference except in the methods used and the scale of destruction.

What I believe is true that Muslim fundamentalism/radicalism is currently much more prevalent that Christian fundamentalism (not to say that all or most Muslims in the UK fit into this category). The reasons are pretty complex as always, but my view is that the rise of Islamism (not a direct equivalent to Muslim fundamentalism, but bear with me as I hope it's not too great a leap for the sake of this argument) stems from the failure of pan-Arab nationalism across a range of areas, but most particularly in the Palestinian cause. Pan-Arab nationalism was broader than just Muslims, including Christians (particularly Palestinian Christians). I think the Palestinian issue (whatever your views on the rights and wrongs of it) festers in the Muslim world, and needs to be solved - and it will never be solved until the US pressurises Israel - and even then there will need to be good faith on the other side. With the war in Iraq and other factors, there are other grievances as well.

Does this justify terrorism? Of course not, but unless people are prepared to understand the causes of it, progress wil never be made. Any analysis that says the basic problem is the nature of Islam will tend to move us towards a 'war with Islam' and there are plenty of fundamentailst Christians who think that's what we've got and that it's a good thing - particularly as it will fulfill the prophesies of the 2nd coming of Christ.

Do I think the nutters at the heart of the Islamic terror will give up if the Palestinian and other problems are solved? No, but they'll find they get little support from what they see as their base. Look where Real/Continuity IRA are now. The PIRA didn't achieve their avowed goal of united Ireland, but many of the real festering causes of their campaign (percieved lack of civil rights for NI Catholics) are being addressed via the peace process.

In the meantime, I think our challenge is to prevent, terrorist attacks, catch and punish the perpetrators and those who deliberatley harbour and support them, while maintaining the freedoms that makes this country a better place than the Saudi Arabias of the world.

You simplistically compare two situations that only a dullard would.

Can't have been that well educated, they couldn't even create a bomb that worked because they were stupid enough to think that they could blow up gas cannisters by lighting some petrol underneath them......

Due to the fact that gas cannisters are designed to get heated up and not explode (when the pressure gets to great they should vent the gas which will cause a nice flame to shoot out of them). Even if they do they will make a nice big fireball but not do much in the way of damage.

Watching too many hollywood movies I guess (my god hollywood is good for something after all).

I have to say that I'm more worried that they are letting morons like this work for our NHS, they were blatantly incompetant so they should not be treating people in our hospitals!!
